The practical training in Heilerziehungspflege has a special empasis throughout the entire training.

The training prepares students for their professional duties. Students in their work support responsibly people with different disabilities of all ages in their life skills.

The job duties are varied and include mainly:

• Support and care with personal hygiene, space and laundry and meal preparation and food intake
• assistance in daily living environment and help with everyday tasks and requirements
• Assistance in the development of individual skills
• providing a subjectively meaningful life
• Inclusion in society
• promote the overall development of personality, especially of independence and self-determination

From the above mentioned job duties result the learning objectives in Praxis der Heilerziehungspflege. By visits of the students in their practice through school advisors and the implementation of projects will be taught in a practical professional knowledge.

Lebenszeit- und Lebensraumgestaltung

This composite subject includes several practically orientated courses. People with disabilities receive a wide range of offers from different areas and are thus in a position to actively shape their everyday lives according to their abilities and to develop preferences.

Bewegung (Physical Education)

The lessons taught inBewegung give students basic knowledge about the meaning and content of sport for people with disabilities. The classes offer the opportunity to get acquanted with particularly suitable forms of exercise, sports and games and experience them oneself. So the prospective Heilerziehungspfleger attains criteria for effects and difficulties in the application of the exercises in the practice. Moreover, the lessions show the appropriate methods and forms of organization for physical education for people with disabilities.

The aim of the subject Bewegung is to convey to people with disabilities skills which allow them a better integration into the community, and an adventurous, independent life. This education to movement and sports is based not only on disability-related disorders, but applies to the discovery, development and promotion of existing skills and talents as well as opening up new possibilities of the environment for the person with a disability.

Gestalten (Creative Works)

In Gestalten students make experiences with various materials which are suitable for creative work with people with disabilities in particular.

You will learn the characteristics and processing techniques for various materials. You will reflect on their applications according to the needs and abilities of people in different context of disability.

Finally, students create images and objects according to their own ideas and gain personal experience and expertise in dealing with the material. On this basis, you as Heilerziehungspfleger will offer creative ideas and needs-based expression to people with disabilities.

Hauswirtschaft (Housekeeping)

Hauswirtschaft as a complex area deals with "principles of nutrition, food preparation, laundry and textile care, work organization and planning." Students bring with them prior knowledge and experiences from other trainings as well as their personal life. These can be integrated into the lessions as well as actualized, extended applied and job-related critically reconsidered.

Thus, Heilerziehungspfleger become empowered and encouraged to guide and assist people with disabilities in their everyday care and domestic tasks - in an mindful way of dealing with themselves, the people they care for as well as the resources.

The professional support during the training supports the implementation of the teaching content in practice. In addition to technical competence there is much emphasis on creativity, imagination and self-reliance in  making music.

Spielpädagogik (Paedagogy of Play)

The subject Spielpädagogik includes all forms of playing in the development from toddlers to adulthood. Students have the occasion to experience themselves in functional plays, role playing games, constructing games and rule games. You will find out which game form is suitable for which group of people and how to proceed methodically in order to introduce the game to the respective target group. You'll be surprised how important games for people are, and how much fun it also gives to people who in everyday life play rather little or not! At the end of the training, the student will be able to select appropriate materials and carry out appropriate play activities for people with disabilities.

Medienpädagogik (Media Education)

Heilerziehungspfleger know the importance of media in the context of the development of technologically influenced communication and knowledge society. Based on the analysis of various media educational concepts reflect the student's own usage patterns and learn to judge the significance of media for the development and socialization of children and adolescents.

They understand the aims and tasks of modern media education and starting from a situation-oriented educational approach are able to support people with disabilities in gaining their own media competence.

Pflege (Care)

Pflege (Care)

Pflege includes all health-promoting activities in the sense of improvement, preservation and restoration of physical, mental and spiritual well-being in all life phases and situations.

Holistic, activating care, which tries to increase or at least obtain the resources of people with disabilities, is a fundamental principle in the subject Pflege. In addition to acquiring theoretical knowledge, the practicing of basic nursing skills is part of the experiential learning.

To care is also a basic form of communication. Therefore, the caring activity is also used as a means of communication and giving attention.

Religionspädagogik (Religious Education)

Religionspädagogik (Religious Education)

The religious situation of the students is shaped by a variety of biographical and contemporary historical factors that influence both the content knowledge and the motivation.

In the subject Religionspädagogik the student’s religious experience and education  should be reflected, expanded and differenciated on the background of dealing with theological and anthropological questions. Also the ethical dimension of individual and social life will be considered in this subject..

Focus on the one hand, is the dealing with life crises and their processing, on the other hand, the ability to convey faith in a meaningful manner and to facilitate religious life under the conditions of limitation and disease.

The classes will enable students to deal with fundamental issues of life that result from working with people with disabilities, to engage and learn about and adopt interpretations of the Christian faith. Students should be stimulated and encouraged to realize their Christian responsibility to perceive and express themselves through purposeful action. They should be taught to develop and realise their own form of faith.

In a wide range of so-called Fachliche Ergänzungen students may choose courses in different subject areas of orthopaedagogy or disabled paedagogy to deepen their knowledge according to their field of interest and job-related priorities.
